No you have them everywhere, so I think it has more to do with conservative values and population density. In a more liberal place more people would be inclined to listen to electronic music as opposed to say country, and with a higher population density you have higher numbers to draw from. Sure there are enough people to fill venues but they don't get filled because driving takes a long time and fuel is expensive. Sadly most of the DJs I know who are actually good don't give a fuck if they ever play out in public here as they realize it is pointless.

Texas is great if you want to be a Country musician or a in a Metal band, even electric blues, but electronic music.... I just hear crickets.

I have never been to either of those places, so I can't verify that either of them would be better for overall living, but I can only imagine that the scene for harsher electronica is better.
