The mars volta isn't exactly commercial if that is what you're trying to say. Why don't you go listen to some kittie or sum41?!! THAT is commercial music. They're a good band, but I didn't expect any of the techno people to know much about this sort of music. But on the reals you're right about the emo thing they could definately be described as that. Their music is definately emotional. You can't deny that even though it isn't for everyone, the lyrics and the music is something that someone obviously put a very large amount of effort into it. From that perspective, the shit they play would be very difficult to master like they have. Some people like harder bands with a different approach, and some people like shit that is more complex, unpredictable and even weird if you wanna call it that. They don't rock the way YOU want them to in order to grab your attention, but I think it's cool that they are doing their own thing. It's something totally different. I've also noticed in my travels they've only recently started playing them on the radio and more in TX,particularly Austin, than anywhere else.

Tell me some bands that you think really rock Mr. Tremor! :?

Zild
04-27-2005, 10:42 AM
I have their first album but really I only like the drummer, bassist, and keys. It sounds like the guitarist and singer are always struggling to play out of their ability especially live where they don't have the studio to clean their shit up.

demondick
04-27-2005, 10:51 AM
That makes more sense to me than just saying they suck Zild. Thanks for the intelligent reply! I don't think it is accurate to say that a band doing something totally different than anything else out there doesn't have cajones, especially if a bandmate just died recently. I see what you mean in your post, but at the end of the show the DRUMMER seemed to be struggling! Maybe he wasn't and the other dudes just couldn't keep up with him, too busy shimmying and trying to show off maybe? :P The last 20 minutes were a bit off, but all the rest was perfect I think. Some of the noisy weird instrumental parts could be cut out of their show and more singing some songs they skipped would be better I think. I think all that weird shit on the new album is for home listening more than anything, but that's just me. I never said they weren't subject to criticism, but they definately do rock. I think At the Drive In is pretty freakin cool too, and they are reuniting! :)

Zild
04-27-2005, 02:08 PM
I'd be struggling at the end of a show if I had to play those drum parts too. The bastard never stops rocking out.

demondick
04-27-2005, 03:04 PM
Yeah no shit. The drummer needed a break. Instead of them playing non stop like that for two and a half hours they should have played two different one and a half hour sets or a couple of two hour sets would have been hella cool! They extended some songs that are the flavor of the moment and skipped some older ones which pissed me off a little. I wish they would have incorporated evrything but oh well. I still gots love for em. :)

I listen to all sorts of music, and have never identified or considered myself as a "raver," but thanx. It's not so much the commercialism, I like plenty of commercialy successful music.. I just don't like Mars Volta. I don't think it's a unique or different sound at all, it's a sound that's been around for a long long while now, nor is it any more thought out or produced. As far as "bands that I think really rock"..lol. I used to listen to lots of punk, My fav band ever is the Misfits, the old Misfits with Glenn. I used to dig stuff like Dead Kennedys, Subhumanz, Exploited, Crass, Fear, Sex Pistols of course, Black Flag, Minor Threat, even the Clash, or the switch over to bands like Blondie and Public Image Limited. Other bands I like would include Samhain, CKy, Turbonegro, Zen Gorilla, Nebula, the Bellrays, the Sonics, Dead, Primus, Tool, Pantera, White Zombie, Sepultura, System of a Down. I even like stuff like Cannibal Corpse, Broken Hope, Mortician, and Amorphis. I like old industrial too like Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Skrew, Front Line Assembly, even NIN. I follow lots of local bands too like Speeder, Pistola, Yoshimoto, Boxcar Satan, Double Clutch, Fin Del Mar, Sexto Sol, Atarika.. These are just a few.. I like hip hop and some jazz too.

Try not to get so butt hurt next time someone doesn't like what you do, I'm not attacking you, just stating my opinion. You prolly wouldn't like my music, and that's fine, I don't make it for you or anyone else. I'm sure Mars Volta is a super band, and big ups to them for making it big, that's really special.. but I think they're lame.. And I think you're lame to imply that I or anyone else is a binky sucking raver because I don't like the whiney ass bands you do. Like you said, it's not a sound for everyone..

I was joking dude.Look at me, I am on the teknosouns forum spelled with a k and I'm sure that must imply something but you just unleashed a box of superabsorbent tampons! Butt hurt? No. Amused? Yes. Just remember I was only kidding and when I said that binky/raver shit and thought you might find the irony in it even being posted on this board. I wasn't referring to the entire forum either in my smartass comment. If I believed that everyone's taste here were that shitty and limited I wouldn't have ever posted this. I now have a better understanding of your musical taste, and can see that although it is different you're not a COMPLETE moron. Remember, this is the internet, and it is serious business!

I don't like much techno for home listening unless I am gettin it on, really loaded or both. It's too hard and fast I like it on roadtrips sometimes though, but prefer to hear it at a club with a loud system. That's about it.I'm not opening anything sent to me that could have viruses etc.He should post a mix with some of his tracks on the board, give a tracklisting and make it in one of those nifty zip files so you can check out each track individually! He does make tracks?! Good! Now he has room to talk!

Tremor has his own label - EPICENTRIK RECORDINGS - which I think speaks volumes about his love for music. He's definitely one of San Antonio's most talented DJ's, and he produces bangin' hard techno. He's also a part of SA's elite DCS crew, who have their own stage at the upcoming Sm!le Fest in Austin.

What are YOUR credentials?

What are YOUR credentials?

I'm not much of a musician, but then I'm not saying it doesn't take balls to sign a record deal and put your work out there while doing something completely different from everyone else.I know everyone may have a different take on what they think is original though.I already said I'd think he has room to talk now that I know he makes music and doesn't just play it. I've heard so many purists from househeads to junglist act like all other music besides their genre of choice is shit. I was more or less cringing at the thought of hearing that same song and dance again, but still curious as to see if that were the case. I just am very passionate about music, and want other people to see things I discover that I think are great, regardless of what they are. I'm not as quick to say music sucks so much as I'd be more likely to say it is whiny, repetative, girly, monotonous or predictable. I just am interested in more detailed explanations of why people appreciate(or dislike) different forms of art, as opposed to just saying it has no balls or it sucks. That is all. :)

I'm dling the mix now. The production work is cool. It's bangin, but the original mix is a minimalist approach for sure. There are some cool sounds in there, but it seems like it was probably produced pretty quickly or just with the goal in mind for it to sound like lots of hard minimal techno does. I like things with more surprises, and more crazy rythms instead of the same four on the floor beat. My favorite techno dj or producer would have to be either Adam Beyer or Danilo Vigorito. The track and the remix would work fine on any dancefloor with a loud system. I'm not much for the trancyness of the remix, but it isn't too shabby. :)

I hear ya man, and I wasn't trying to raz ya, and I wasn't trying to insult anyone.. But yeah one smart ass reply deserves another, so cheers on agreeing to disagree.. And thanx for the compliment on DCS, I'm sure we all appreciate that. Sure I have my moments of moronics, we all do, but music is something I've always been passionate about as well, it's been a part of my life since I can remember, and I've been playing one instument or another since I was 9. There's 2 mixes of mine in the mix forum and I've got some original trax up at www.myspace.com/tremor if you're interested.. :)

The mix is bangin and I might even burn a copy for road rage and other tomfoolery! I think your production work can only get better even though it isn't bad at all, just like I said it isn't as busy as some of the music I like. Then again records like that were made to be mixed with one another.I think you should get some cool synths in there like the tracks on the mix and I think it would be more fun to listen to especially while mixed with other tracks you've produced.I like techno with crazy shit going on in it, and super scary sounding trippy morph sounds, bleeps and bips etc. And I hate when the beat never changes.I prefer several buildups and bass drops in one track.

Tremor

Thanx for taking the time to listen and give feed back, I always appreciate that. Yes, "Airport" was produced in a whopping 2 hours a couple Saturdays ago while I was messing with some new samples Serpentus had sent me, and is definately on the minimal side and intended to be mixed. It's just a banger, but I like that. I actually hadn't intended it for release, but the initial feedback was better than I thought it would be.. so there it is. If you like Adam Beyer, I'm sure you can appreciate minimalism, he's a champ. Check out the newer ones on myspace if you get a chance, a couple of those are a bit different.. Peace..

^^Thanks guys.. 8)
