My preferred route is to take IH 35 to San Marcos, then head
East on 123 until you get to Karnes City. From there, you'll
go left on 181, and ride that into Portland, over the big
Corpus Christi bridge, and then hit the Crosstown
Expressway, then the SPID, and follow it until it dead ends
at the Padre island National Seashore. Takes about 3 hours
or so to go that route from Austin.
