Thread: Quit staring at the dj...

  1. #1 Quit staring at the dj...
So the # of people going out is definitely up from the past few years and you'd think that with the # of people going up you'd see more people dancing and having a good time.

Nope it's thousands of people eye fucking the djs the entire night.

1999 everyone was dancing and having a good time.

2009 everyone is having a staring contest with the dj waiting for him to do a fucking magic trick. He/She is up there playing music to make you MOVE!

If it's a live act I can understand watching in amazement. But come on the DJ is doing the same thing the last DJ did. Nothing special is going on visually. The magic is coming out of the speakers!

    Ok I'm done ranting.

Dancing is sooo '04.... Next "IN" thing is staring at the DJ while wearing 3D glasses. Its to simulate actually being there while you're wondering if you left the iron on.

Don't know what parties you went to, but the idolatry of the DJ started in the mid 90s and was more pronounced @ the large events, than the small.

I think, along with the rave scene, the eye staring contest w/ the DJ originated in Europe.

Cheshire Cat: If I were looking for a white rabbit, I'd ask the Mad Hatter.
Alice: The Mad Hatter? Oh, no no no.
Cheshire Cat: Or, you could ask the March Hare, in that direction.
Alice: Oh, thank you. I think I'll see him.
Cheshire Cat: Of course, he's mad, too.
Alice: But I don't want to go among mad people.
Cheshire Cat: Oh, you can't help that. Most everyone's mad here.
Cheshire Cat: You may have noticed that I'm not all there myself

Come to think of it, I have noticed it. I've probably been guilty of it, myself. I have definitely been dancing more recently, that's for sure. I got tired of standing around.

Nah man... 97 I was livin in San Fran and the staring contest was alive and well @ some of those events. Not all, but some. It seemed to have started @ the DnB events, but people started staring @ the house events too, which was bunk, because they usually took up too much of the scarce space on the floor.

Don't stare at the Dj! Don't stare at that go-go either! There, stare at that speaker!

And I beg to differ. The DJ stare down originated in ancient times when the Mayans first carved turntables out of stone and everyone had to stop their calendar making duties to just stare at the DJ.

Mayans = more old school than you.

I stare at DJ's when its a live set or if they are turntablists but other than that yah they pretty much do the same shit, play the same songs, and act the same way. Meh.

If the music was better folks wouldn't be standing around. You don't see that shit at psy parties. Just sayin...

Does anyone else find in the irony in this thread "quit staring at the DJ" and the other one "I don't get the point of gogos". Just seems quite ironic to me haha.

I don't see any irony in that... The point in both is that you should go to a party and dance; have a good time, not stand around staring at stuff.
