    but to answer your question,
there's several vegetables that will grow fine in containers such as:

    babby carrots,
    chard,
    eggplant,
    lettuce,
    peppers,
    potatoes,
    snap beans,
    spinach,
    and tomatoes.

also, it's good to look at online seed companies hybrids b/c in some cases they have container-suitable hybrids,
    e.g. - Burpee's Babby Bubba Okra
    http://www.burpee.com/vegetables/okr...rod000766.html

also, herbs grow well in containers.

    I'd suggest picking up:
Miracle-Gro - Complete Guide to Vegetables, Fruits & Herbs
    ISBN 9780696236365
    for about $20

it's a really good resource, IMO.

when you get finished being a raving raver you make sure to save those LEDS.

they are good for plants' vegetative growth, but it's recommended to switch light (natural or different type artifical light) before any fruiting of your vegetables (when mature).

ive been trying to grow sweet peppers and tomatoes on my patio for years.. My problem is I always start to late. This year I plan to start in the next 2 weeks or so.

I had a coffee plant last me 4 years.. I read up and babied that damn thing cause I wanted to roast my own damn coffee.. even if it was worth 1 cup. Anyway, it got caught in a freeze before I cover it and it died. =(

edit, when i buy a house, id like to grow some haas avacados, and i heard pineapples are really easy to grow in the summer in texas. they just take a few years before they give fruit.

in regards to growing your own avocados

"If you’re talking about a tree that you started from a seed, then don’t expect your plant to bear fruit, because ungrafted trees (like those grown inside from seeds) rarely produce fruit. In order to have an avocado tree that produces fruit, you have to graft the seedling. Grafting involves mixing the tissues of the seedling with those of a producing tree. Once grafted a plant grown from seed can take anywhere from five to 13 years to flower and bear fruit."

Johnny/Secret Agent in EDJ I think has a pineapple plant. He said he just leaves it alone and it does pretty well.

trying these annuals, since starting from seed (b/c cheaper than buying plants) and can be done in containers and moved indoors during freezes.

someone that lived down from me, where I used to live, had a kumquat tree that did really well.

I don't even think they ate them, instead using them for decoration.

If I planned on staying in Texas for atleast five more years I'd try those.

I've got some extra sweet basil and cherry tomato seedlings if anybody is interested. Both organically sprouted and grown.

Seedlings are about 2 weeks old and ready to be transplanted into pots or a garden

I forgot who was saying they grew rosemary,

but I read something kind of interesting today - rosemary are a very easily cloned plant (using rooting powder).

probably will try that next time. (fall)

it's a hormone that promotes root growth.
it comes in small plastic containers.
you dip the end of the cutting in the powder and roots grow from there.
